Viola Ruth Beckett, 88, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 4:13 AM, Wednesday, June 29th, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood, Edgewood, KY. Viola was born in Carthage, IN on September 24, 1933, a daughter of the late Mabel (Rumple) and Daley Thurston. On February 7, 1953, she was married to the late John William Beckett. She was employed in housekeeping at the Rising Star Casino, where she also enjoyed spending time with friends and playing cards. Viola liked playing bingo, working puzzles, and watching the Cincinnati Reds.
Viola is survived by sons Kenny Beckett (Connie) of Rising Sun, IN, Glenn Beckett (Cheryl) of Florida, Randy Beckett (Glenda) of Rising Sun, IN, John Beckett (Debbie) of Greendale, IN; daughters Sharon Perfect (Kenneth) of Rising Sun, IN and Connie Bowman (David) of Rising Sun, IN; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers James Thurston and Paul Thurston; sisters Ethel Elkins and Velma Rennemeier; daughter-in-law Sandy Beckett; and granddaughter Chloe Bowman.
A public visitation will be held 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 2nd at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Funeral will be Saturday, July 2nd at Markland Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Greendale Cemetery.
