Virgil Carl Neaman, 85, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 6:35 PM, Monday, July 4th, 2022 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Virgil was born in Rising Sun, IN on June 17, 1937, a son of the late Bertha E. (Hoeferkamp) Neaman and Carl F. Neaman. He was a 1955 graduate of Rising Sun High School. He went on to attend Hanover College and received his master's from Ball State University in 1963. Virgil began teaching Business Education for the Rising Sun-Ohio County Community Schools in 1963. He retired in 2000 after 37 years of service. Virgil was Past President of the Ohio County Classroom Teachers Association and was the official scorekeeper for the Rising Sun Shiners for 52 years. Virgil owned Neaman Floral in Rising Sun from 1968 to 2021. He was selected as Businessman of the year and was honored by the America in Bloom Committee of Rising Sun. Virgil had a selfless devotion to serving his community and the youth of Ohio County. Some of his memberships and past offices held included: President and Secretary of the Rotary Club, President of the Ohio County Youth Development Corp., Ohio County Extension Board, Secretary of the Ohio County Development Corp., Vice President of the Ohio County Community Foundation, President of the Ohio County Public Library Board and Rising Sun Blue Jeans Inc. He also has been honored by the Ohio County Fair Board for his support of the 4-H program for many years. Virgil was a man of faith and a lifetime member of the Rising Sun First United Church of Christ where he served on the church board. His kind and gentle nature and devotion to service will never be forgotten.
Virgil is survived by his brother, Stephen Neaman and wife Sue, of Seymour, IN and by 4 nephews; J. Bryon, Jeremy, Jason and Joshua Neaman. Virgil is also survived by hundreds of grateful former students and citizens of this community.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, July 9th at Markland Funeral Home with Lane Siekman officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 8th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun First United Church of Christ or the Virgil Neaman Fund established at the Ohio County Community Foundation (checks payable to OCCF).
