Wayne Hartman Hughes, 81, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away Friday, December 2, 2022 at 2:52 PM at St. Elizabeth Dearborn Hospital in Lawrenceburg, IN, surrounded by his loved ones. Wayne was born on June 3, 1941 in Henry County, Kentucky, a son of the late Theodore “Ted” Hughes and MaryJo (Meadows) Hughes. Wayne was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana. Wayne proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed at and retired after 35 years from the Aurora Casket Company. On June 30, 1996, he was married to Donna (Flood) Scudder Hughes who preceded him in death. They were married for 23 years.
Wayne was a member of the Vevay American Legion. He was known for being very hardworking, loving farming, working tobacco, cutting firewood, and enjoying country music. Wayne was very generous and loved helping the people he cared about.
Wayne will be greatly missed by his son, Toby Hughes (Jacqueline); stepchildren Karen Evans and Bobbie Jo Turner (David); grandchildren Brianna Hughes and Caleb Hughes; step-grandchildren Briar Miller and Zachary Courter; great grandchild Brantley Wayne Roberson; step-great grandchild Everleigh Miller; siblings Margaret Stegemiller, Mildred Fleek (Danny), and Nathan Hughes (Donna).
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Ted and MaryJo Hughes; wife Donna Scudder Hughes; siblings Gertrude Voris and Ralph Hughes; and stepson Brian Scudder.
A public visitation will be held Friday, December 9th at the Markland Funeral Home from 5 – 7 PM. Funeral will be Saturday, December 10th at the Markland Funeral Home at 10 AM with burial to follow at the Vevay Cemetery in Vevay, IN.
