William Cornell Hoffman Sr., 78, of Dillsboro, Indiana, passed away June 8, 2026 at his home. William was born on November 24, 1947 in Milan, Indiana, a son of Ernest William and Esther (Hankins) Hoffman. William was a graduate of the Cross Plains High School Class of 1965. He faithfully served his country in the United States Marines Corps, with service during the Vietnam War. After the military, he continued his legacy of service by becoming a police officer for the City of Lawrenceburg, retiring after over 42 years with his department.

William was a member of the Dillsboro American Legion Post #292 and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an excellent marksman, especially enjoying target shooting and trap shooting. William loved spending time in nature, going hunting and fishing, and also spending time reading. On April 5, 1980, William was married to Nina (Davies).

William is survived by wife Nina Hoffman of Dillsboro, Indiana; sons Ernest William Hoffman of Vevay, Indiana, Michael William Hoffman (and wife Sara) of Rising Sun, Indiana, and William Cornell Hoffman Jr. of Dillsboro, Indiana; daughters Tracy Wood of Versailles, Indiana and Nina “Sissy” (and husband Ronnie) of Dillsboro, Indiana; brother Dennis “Denny” Hoffman of Cross Plains, Indiana; sisters Sheila Webster of Greendale, Indiana and Teri Scudder of Batesville, Indiana; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Ester Hoffman and grandson Billy Ernest William Jr., who passed in 2018.

Memorial services are to be held privately by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 292.
