William A. "Just Bill" Marksberry, 65, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Saturday, May 8th, 2021 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Bill was born in Carrollton, KY on November 3, 1955, son of Roy and Patricia (Jackson) Marksberry, of Rising Sun, IN. Bill was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1974. He was the loving husband of Terri (Potter) Marksberry. Bill and Terri were married on June 18, 1977 at the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ with Oscar Potter officiating. They were married nearly 44 years until his passing. Bill began working at a young age at the Phillips 66 station in Rising Sun, where he worked the pumps as soon as he was old enough to count change. He went on to drive the wrecker and deliver fuel oil. Bill worked at Indiana Michigan Power in Lawrenceburg for over 18 years. Bill was also employed, until his retirement, by the Rising Sun - Ohio County Community School corporation where he served as Building & Grounds Supervisor and a School Bus Driver, a job he loved. Working for the school system and being around all the kids was one of the most cherished times in Bill's life. Bill dedicated his life to serving his community, including: Mayor of Rising Sun, Ohio Co. Commissioner, Ohio Co. Council, Southeastern Indiana Solid Waste Board, Planning & Zoning Board, Ohio Co. Fair Board, member and former Chief of the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Dept., Ohio Co. Life Squad, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge and Widows Sons Masonic Riders Association, Rising Sun City Council and Sons of the American Legion to name but a few. Bill worked with and supported many organizations and departments in our community to maintain and revitalize the City of Rising Sun, the river front, our community parks and our county and city essential services. Bill's kind and caring nature brought people together and even when he was mayor, he was still Just Bill. Weekends would often find Mayor "Just Bill" supporting all the local shops on Main Street and trying to bring a smile to everyone's face. Bill was a man strong in his faith and an active member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. He always had a passion for music; he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Bill also loved the outdoors and spent a lot of family time camping. He truly loved spending time riding his motorcycle, and a day on his motorcycle was a day well spent. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend, faithful Christian who had a servants heart and will be deeply missed.
Bill is survived by loving wife Terri Marksberry, of Rising Sun, IN; by his daughter, Bethany Rider and husband Rodney, of Tornado, WV; by his son,Greg Marksberry and wife Karen, of Dillsboro, IN; by his grandchildren: Kaleb, Wesley, Wade and Nora Rider and Brenden, Logan, Addison, Lincoln and Dawson Marksberry; by his parents, Roy and Pat Marksberry, of Rising Sun, IN; by three sisters, Teresa Sebree, of Vevay, IN; Tina Menke, of St. Leon, IN and Lois Flaherty, of Warsaw, KY; by two brothers, Troy Marksberry and wife Traci, of Rising Sun, IN and Mike Marksberry and wife Sarah, of Rising Sun, IN; by brother/sister in laws Sandra (Potter) Stahl and husband Wayne of Rising Sun, IN; George Potter and wife Mary Edith of Rising Sun, IN; as well as many nieces. nephews, and cousins.
