William Paul "Bill" Watson, Sr. was born in Cincinnati, OH on March 1, 1954, a son of the late Reva Mae (Pittman) and Joseph Kendrick Watson. He was a graduate of Aiken High School, Class of 1972, and a graduate of the University of Findlay. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a SP4. While in service, Bill received the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter M-16, and Army Occupational Medal- Berlin. He was also a member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post 59. Bill was the widower of Catherine (Moertle) Watson. Bill and Cathy were married on July 23, 1978. Bill worked in enviromental remediation at Fernald, retiring in 2005. Bill enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandkids. He loved the outdoors and being on his tractor on his property near Cass-Union. Bill was a kind and caring man who never met a stranger and was the best daddy ever. Bill passed away at 4:07 PM, Wednesday, July 15th, 2020 in his daughter's arms surrounded by loved ones.
Bill is survived by a daughter, Stefanie Watson, of Rising Sun, IN; by four grandchildren: Chad Michael Logan Ackman, Mikey MD Ackman, William Brian Paul Watson and Austin Lee Watson; by a sister, Jo Anne Mental, of Cincinnati, OH; by two brothers, Wayne Watson, of Columbia, SC and Gary Watson, of Vevay, IN; by 2 brothers-in law; Norb Moertle (Suzy), of Tampa, Fl and Ricky Moertle, of Cincinnati, OH; by a sister-in-law, Karen Smallwood, of Loveland, OH and by many other family members and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife, Cathy on February 14, 2007 and by a son, William Paul Watson, II on October 25, 2004.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Monday, July 20th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, In with Pastor Joe Head officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 19th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be held at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, IN.
