Wilma (Dunaway) Houze, age 92, passed away Aug. 9that Shady Nook Nursing Home, with family near. Wilma entered this life Jan. 22, 1930. She was the daughter of Emmett Dunaway and Laura (Bevis) Dunaway.
She was raised and attended school in Rising Sun, Indiana. Wilma was united in marriage in January of 1947 to Denver Cecil Houze. This union was blessed with a son Ronald Houze and later a daughter Cynthia. Later to this union, two little girls were added, Marilyn and Sharon. Denver and Wilma shared 64 years of marriage together until Denver’s death, Dec. 9, 2011.
In 1959 when Dearborn Co. Hospital opened its doors, she was proud to work as a LPN on the OB floor. After leaving DCH she became a homecare nurse under the direction of the late Dr. Gerry Blair of Vevay, IN.
Wilma resided in the Vevay community until 2019, at which time she came to Rising Sun, where she resided with her sister Naomi Colen.
She enjoyed attending East Enterprise Wesleyan Church, reading her Bible, working crosswords puzzles, praying and testifying of her love for her Jesus.
Wilma is survived by her son Ronald Houze of Rising Sun, daughter Cynthia White of East Enterprise, daughter Marilyn West and husband Ron of Rogers, Arkansas, daughter Sharon Jackson and husband Paul of Vevay, sister Naomi Colen of Rising Sun, grandchildren Pat Houze and Kelly of Florence, KY, Eric White and Shannon of Rising Sun, Andrea Shackleford and Sam of Rising Sun, Faith Vinson and Walt of Somerset, KY, Cynthia Galloway and Blake of Madison, IN, Lindsay Givens and Robin of Mississippi, Gregory Givens and Brittany of Florence, KY, as well as several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A public visitation will be held Monday, August 15th, at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, from 11 AM – 1 PM. Funeral will be Monday, August 15th, at 1 PMat the Markland Funeral Home with burial to follow at Cedar Hedge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Loving Hearts Hospice.
